FO3REST - Ozone and Climate Change Impacts on French and Italian Forests: Refinement of criteria and thresholds for forest protection

چکیده
In the stratosphere, the ozone (O3) plays a role of natural and beneficial screen in relation to the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) for the organic matter (= good ozone). In the troposphere, O3 is a pollutant that is produced during the atmospheric photo-oxidation of ozone precursors: Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) mainly emitted by anthropogenic activities (= bad ozone).

Advances of air pollution science: from forest decline to multiple-stress effects on forest ecosystem services.
Over the past 20 years, the focus of forest science on air pollution has moved from forest decline to a holistic framework of forest health, and from the effects on forest production to the ecosystem services provided by forest ecosystems. Hence, future research should focus on the interacting factorial impacts and resulting antagonistic and synergistic responses of forest trees and ecosystems....
متن کاملModelling potential impacts of climate change on the oak spatial distribution (Case study: Ilam and Lorestan provinces)
Examining the effects of climate change on the oak spatial distribution, as the main species of Zagros forests and its ecological and economic values is of significant importance. Here, we used species distribution models for simulating current climatic suitability of oak and its potential changes in 2050 and 2070. For this purpose, five regression-based and machine learning approaches, four cl...
متن کاملHealth and vitality assessment of two common pine species in the context of climate change in southern Europe.
The Mediterranean Basin is expected to be more strongly affected by ongoing climate change than most other regions of the earth. The South-eastern France can be considered as case study for assessing global change impacts on forests. Based on non-parametric statistical tests, the climatic parameters (temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, global radiation) and forest-response indicators (cro...
متن کاملImpacts of tropospheric ozone and climate change on net primary productivity and net carbon exchange of China's forest ecosystems
Methods Using the dynamic land ecosystem model (DLEM) in conjunction with 10-km-resolution gridded historical data sets (tropospheric O3 concentrations, climate variability/change, and other environmental factors such as land-cover/ land-use change (LCLUC), increasing CO2 and nitrogen deposition), we conducted nine simulation experiments to: (1) investigate the temporo-spatial patterns of NPP a...
متن کاملImpacts of air pollution and climate change on forest ecosystems--emerging research needs.
Outcomes from the 22nd meeting for Specialists in Air Pollution Effects on Forest Ecosystems "Forests under Anthropogenic Pressure--Effects of Air Pollution, Climate Change and Urban Development", September 10-16, 2006, Riverside, CA, are summarized. Tropospheric or ground-level ozone (O3) is still the phytotoxic air pollutant of major interest. Challenging issues are how to make O3 standards o...
